The Maternity department at the Mater Hospital provides women and their families with supportive, high quality care before, during and after the birth of their baby. The Mater has a long and proud tradition in the development and provision of a family focused approach to maternity services. We offer an integrated, collaborative team of obstetricians, paediatricians, midwives, maternity social workers and lactation experts to guide in the planning and development of your pregnancy. In recognition of your right to choose and to ensure mothers and partners are adequately prepared, we provide education and information programs so your choices are the best possible. We also run “refresher” courses for grandparents who may be assisting in the care of a newborn infant. At the Mater, we welcome over 2000 babies to the world each year – our maternity staff know that having a baby is one of the most exciting times of your life.
