Bring all medications, tablets, eye drops or injections that you normally take in their original containers with labels. Include any Aspirin, oral contraceptives, naturopathic remedies, vitamins or any products from health food stores. We ask that you give all medications to the admitting nurse so that we can identify the medications and your doctor can review them with you. While you are an in-patient of the Mater, all medications must be administered to you by a registered nurse and authorised by a Medical Officer.

On the ground floor of the Hospital is the Mater Pharmacy, which can supply repeat prescriptions if required during your hospital stay.

Following your operation you may be required to take new medication and your doctor will advise you of this, prior to your discharge from the Mater.

We strongly recommend that valuable items, jewellery or large amounts of cash should not be brought to the Mater or kept in patients' rooms.

At all times patients are required to be responsible for their own possessions as the Mater takes every care, but regrettably cannot accept liability for any valuables brought into the hospital.

Do not bring mobile phones or pagers in to the hospital, for the safety and comfort of yourself and of other patients.

For all patients it is recommended that an adult accompanies you home and it is advisable to arrange for an adult to be at home with you after discharge in case you require assistance. As the effect of sedation is variable, you should not have any major commitments immediately after your Mater stay. Do not drive a motor vehicle or operate complex or potentially dangerous equipment within 24 hours of your surgery.

YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE A CAR FOR 24 HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE MATER.

Smoking is not allowed in the hospital. For the comfort of others and for the sake of your own health - do not smoke.

Please avoid the use of mobile telephones while within the Mater Hospital as they may interfere with electronic medical equipment.

Staff carry mobile telephones that operate on different frequencies and do not interfere with medical equipment or patient monitoring systems.
